Current Projects - SRHR – UMBRELLA
The Programme- A five (5) year SRHR and HIV integration grant funded by the Swedish embassy in Uganda. The programme uses umbrella mechanism to contribute to improved SRHR and HIV outcomes for Vulnerable and Key populations.
The Gap – Uganda still experiences huge SRHR and HIV Challenges in areas of access and uptake despite concerted effort and investment from the government of Uganda. Key and vulnerable populations are still left out from the various responses due to a restrictive environment and other factors.
The intervention – CHAU will use the human rights based and client centered approaches to improve SRHR and HIV services to ensure increased uptake of quality, integrated and inclusive services.
CHAU through implementation of this program will continue with its contribution to the ministry of Health mandate through supporting community Action on Health to reducing new HIV infections, Maternal Mortality Rate, Teenage Pregnancies, and Female Genital Mutilation and STI infections. In addition it will reduce unmet need for family planning and increase CPR.
The Programme Aim – To scale up community driven responses addressing the continuing HIV challenge and the significant unmet SRHR needs in Uganda.
The Implementation model: CHAU will undertake grant management through; partner selection, financial management, risk management and M&E to implement the project with 5 National level CSOs and 14 CBOs to deliver on the following outcomes;
- Expanded access and increased use of quality, inclusive and integrated SRHR and HIV services among vulnerable and key populations
- Increased adoption of safer sexual practices among vulnerable and key populations
- An enabling SRHR and HIV environment for vulnerable and key populations
- Strengthened institutional capacity of implementing organizations (NGOs/CBOs) to deliver quality and inclusive SRHR and HIV Programmes in Uganda
The Programme coverage –The project is implemented in 14 districts of Buyende, Iganga, Jinja, Mukono, Kampala, Luwero, Nakaseke, Mubende, Hoima, Kyenjojo, Kabarole, Kamwenge, Mbarara and Ntugamo.
Audience segmentation – SRHR Umbrella is designed to respond to SRHR and HIV needs of vulnerable people in Uganda including Children 0 to 14 years, young people 15 to 24 years, women and girls of reproductive age, Key populations( as defined in the context of Ugandan polices and development guidelines.
The targets – CHAU through this program intends to contribute 10% towards government of Uganda targets in areas of Male Circumcision, CPR, MMR, HCT, ART enrollment and unsafe abortion through reaching to 1,385,643 people.
